Modern Dance is a style of dance that developed as a reaction to the strict rules that defined ballet. This is because it emerged at the beginning of the 20th century in a time when ballet had dominated the dancing world. The Europe claims the roots of modern dance to the developing dance form.
However, modern dance in Nigeria has not been given sufficient attention, the Nigerian choreographer has not succeeded in creating dance performances that can qualify as "Modern dance".
The highest dancer in Nigeria is Odumewu Debbie, a Nigerian dancer and choreographer, sets the new Guinness World Record of "Longest dance marathon by an individual" which lasted for 137 hours. The best dancer in Nigeria now is Poco Lee.
