DANCE CAN STAVE OFF CORONAVIRUS.


Dance is a form of art that is made by purposefully recreating selected sequences of human motion, which can be imbibed with the values of aesthetic and symbolism that are acknowledged by both performers and observers from within the particular culture. The dance itself can be free-form or can have a predefined choreography that may or may not align with traditions of origin or historical period.


Dance has two distinct forms. They are:

1. Theatrical dance:here dancers perform for an audience.

2. Participatory dance:such as wedding dance, social gatherings and festivals.


ORIGIN OF DANCE IN NIGERIA.

Dance has always been with us, even before the arrival of the westerners and education. We have the folk dance :the Ekombi Dance, the Nkwa-umu-Agbogbo Dance, the Bata Dance, the Koroso Dance and the Swange Dance.


The Igbo tribe has the most popular traditional dance in Nigeria-The Atilogwu Dance. This dance art has made an impact in the Nigerian history. The evidence was seen in the work of Hubert Ogunde, the Kwagh-Hir-theatre.


MODERN DANCE.

Modern Dance is a style of dance that developed as a reaction to the strict rules that defined ballet. This is because it emerged at the beginning of the 20th century in a time when ballet had dominated the dancing world. The Europe claims the roots of modern dance to the developing dance form.


However, modern dance in Nigeria has not been given sufficient attention, the Nigerian choreographer has not succeeded in creating dance performances that can qualify as "Modern dance".


The highest dancer in Nigeria is Odumewu Debbie, a Nigerian dancer and choreographer, sets the new Guinness World Record of "Longest dance marathon by an individual" which lasted for 137 hours. The best dancer in Nigeria now is Poco Lee.

6. Physical Responses.

7. Enforcement to conformity to social norms.

8. Validation of social institutions and religious rituals.

4. It Improves posture, balance and coordination.

5. It promotes greater flexibility.

6. It teaches a child to focus, create and be disciplined.

Research:shows dancing can improve your mental health by boosting your overall happiness. Dancing is a great cardio workout. It can improve cardiovascular health increase stamina, strengthen bones and muscles and "Stave off illness". Meaning dancing can stave of Corona virus.
