RAPE IS RAMPANT NOW

By Isioma Angel Okolie.

Violence against girls is one of the most widespread and least recognized human rights abuses in the world. Abuse in all its forms are a daily reality for many Nigerian children and only a fraction ever receive help. Six out of every 10 children experience some form of violence – one in four girls and 10 per cent of boys have been victims of sexual violence

It is important to know that No GIRL deserves to be raped or abused.

WAYS IN WHICH WE CAN STAND UP AGAINST RAPE

1. Remember consent is Key

2. Stop victim-blaming

3. Support and believe the stories of survivors of sexual violence

4. Create awareness among friends, parents and peers about the myths and realities of sexual assault.

5. If you witness sexual abuse/violence at home, school, workplace or in public places, expose the behavior. Don’t condone the act.
